Eye of the beholder 3 browser6/22/2023 The characters are on the right (where you can use any items or click their individual portraits to access their inventory, equipment and stats). The main screen during gameplay is composed of the main view on the left featuring a 1st-person perspective. You have to remember that your party is formed by 2 columns and who’s ever in the front of the party are the ones that’ll fight the enemies in close quarters combat and the ones behind can only attack using projectiles or magic (but be careful when attacked from the back or the sides). You’ll find them throughout your adventure (or what’s left of some of them). I also recommend rolling a cleric, because you’ll definitely need one.Īnd while you start the game up to 4 characters, you have the option to add 2 more NPCs to your party. If you’re not familiarized with this process, then I recommend reading the manual beforehand or even the clue book to get an idea of how to form a good party. Although there isn’t a lot of variety of portraits to choose from, the ones that there are, aren’t bad. We do this by choosing their race, class (or classes, if you’re multiclassing), alignment, then we reroll or modify their stats to our liking and finally, we choose our characters’ appearance through a series of portraits. Then we go to the character creation screen where we have to create up to 4 characters. Then we see our group of adventurers arriving at Waterdeep and entering the sewers, which then collapses, blocking the exit. The intro features a secret council of robed individuals that decide to hire a group of adventurers to go to the sewers below the city of Waterdeep and investigate whatever is going down there, but they’re being spied on by an unseen being through a crystal ball. As the player discovers in the end, their decisions also impact the welfare of nearby communities. The game starts with some good music score for the time and then it shows a quite impressive cinematic intro. Do I trust this person? Are they friendly or a threat? Should I collaborate with this person or fight them?Īs the player faces each challenge in the bunker and decides whether or not to collaborate with the other soldiers, their decisions affect how the other soldier responds to them, and ultimately determines who makes it out alive. EYE OF THE BEHOLDER is set in a conflict zone, but in essence each decision reflects the kind of snap judgement made in school yards, street corners and board rooms across the globe. The EYE OF THE BEHOLDER VR subverts the war-game genre to explore how we judge one another as friend or foe. We developed what is now the EYE OF THE BEHOLDER VR immersive experience. We wanted to bring the remarkable empathy that Najah and Zahed felt for one another into a unique space, where audiences would be able to step into their shoes and make choices for themselves, that could make them rethink their decisions in real life. The film evolved into a feature documentary, which premiered at Hot Docs Documentary Film Festival in 2017. It landed on the Oscar shortlist, was nominated for an Emmy award, and premiered as a NYTimes OpDoc in 2015. I documented their story in a film, MY ENEMY, MY BROTHER, which resonated strongly with audiences across the world. ![]() His act of bravery has had lasting ramifications in both their lives and those of their families. I was deeply inspired by Zahed's ability to recognize the humanity in his enemy. Zahed made a split-second decision in the heat of the battlefield and instead of shooting Najah, he risked his own life to save him. Zahed was an Iranian child soldier during the Iran-Iraq War when he found Najah, an enemy soldier, injured in a bunker. ![]() Zahed and Najah are former enemy soldiers who have become blood brothers for life. ![]() EYE OF THE BEHOLDER is a 20 beta minute experience that subverts the war-game genre as players must choose to combat or collaborate with others.Īs a documentarian I am inspired by real life situations and stories and in 2014, I was lucky enough to meet two men whose story changed my life and that of many others. Step into war-torn enemy territory in this immersive VR game experience based on the Oscar-shortlisted documentary MY ENEMY, MY BROTHER (2015).
